Kpop Goes Pop Punk

The pipeline from boy bands to emo/pop Punk to Kpop is real…. and this concert proves that you’re never too old to return to those roots. Xdinary Heroes is a true band under JYP. 6 guys, live instruments and no dancing. Their sound is refreshing, lyrics written by them and overall brings back memories of being in a mosh pit at 11 years old listening to pop punk thinking I was a true badass. Within our collective group I was really the only actual fan of Xdinary Heroes, but it’s easy to find someone who will go with for an adventure, so thankfully I had a friend join me (and secure tickets on our way to another concert) but even without a friend it’s easy to make friends in Kpop!

First Tour- SOLD OUT!

Xdinary Heroes may have only had 2 dates (LA and NYC) but they sold out both, and QUICKLY. Fighting for these tickets almost felt like fighting for one of the big groups like Stray Kids or Twice! Their fans (fandom- name Villains) are truly dedicated and obsessed with them- as we should be!

The venue was AMAZING- not only easy to get to and in a pretty good area with ample close and safe parking but the building itself is historic and just stunning. Brooklyn Paramount is a much smaller venue than the the large stadiums we frequent, but the views are great from anywhere in the house. Large bar, ample bathrooms, and working AC (which sadly could not be said for every venue this summer). We opted for fast pass to beat the line and it was totally worth it. Merch was slim pickings (only 2 tshirts to choose from and no lights ticks) BUT they had a wide selection of sizes which is always a nice plus!

The concert itself was less frills and more about the music. No props or stage decorations, but nice videos in the background and good use of the screens so everyone could see well. They sound AMAZING live and their energy was great, getting my old ass up out of my seat and my friend (who didn’t feel 100%) even got energized. They are talented and it’s obvious they really enjoy what they are doing, and I couldn’t stop gushing about the performance for weeks to come.

At the end we got a GREAT surprise with a free high wave to anyone who wanted to stay, which was super sweet of them. The line moved quickly and that I was thankful for since I am an old lady and I was tired (with a 2 hour drive home in front of us). I made my way through and thanked them in Korean, to which they seemed pleasantly surprised by. Absolutely adorable group!

If you are looking for something less pop and produced and don’t care about choreographed dances- this is the group for you! Even if you love the normal Kpop scene this group should NOT be ignored and I think they are going to really blow up- or at least I hope so! Join the fandom- become a Villain!

Everyone needs a hero, and with Xdinary Heroes we got 6!
