Welcome to Neo Culture Technology (NCT)
where there are 20+ members, multiple subunits and we bleed green!
Have you heard some NCT songs but are confused or intimidated by the amount of members and subunits? Have no fear NEO has your back! Take the dive into the NCT universe and become an official citizen of Neo City! Now that you’re a NCTzen let’s explain the basics…
The concept of NCT started with the idea that there would be a never ending number of sub units with new members joining and the lineups changing. Starting with NCT U, ew were introduced to the concept with members Taeyong, Mark, Haechan, Jaehyun, Winwin, and Yuta. With their success eventually the team expanded to the 24 members we know today split into 5 sub units. Thankfully for us, SM decided to change the concept and now the members have more stable main groups that get promoted together (though it’s still very common to see sub sub units of the 5 main groups as well). Below is a (hopefully) helpful guide to NCT and some very bare bones facts about the members. Curious about any of them after this? check out Kprofiles.com!
*Lucas went on hiatus in 2023 after allegations were made against him, but the accuser later came forward and admitted the claims were false. Lucas debuted as a solo artist with SM in 2024 (and had stayed friends with his SM buddies during the investigation and his hiatus). His first single Renegade is a total bop!
**Shotaro and Sungchan left NCT U and debuted with a new SM group RIIZE, where they already have multiple chart topping hits!
NCT Units
NCTU was the first sub unit to be created after U, having the 127 added to represent the longitude coordinate for Seoul.
NCT Dream was originally made to be a group of young member that would “graduate” at 19/20 years old to move onto another sub unit. After Mark (their leader) graduated in 2018. The group continued as 6 with Jeno as the newly appointed leader, but in 2020 it was decided that Mark would rejoin the group and continue as leader and the graduation system was abolished (yay!)
WAYV is the first sub unit to not have ‘NCT’ in it’s name, and stands for We are your Vision. It’s also the first Chinese sub unit, releasing songs in Chinese and sometimes English but not Korean. *note: Ten is in WAYV but he is in fact from Thailand
NCT Wish is the newest (and last) sub unit to be added, and is considered the Japanese sub unit (even though they have two Korean members- Sion and Jaehee)
